Governors
Welcome from the Chair of the Local Governing Committee
Welcome, on behalf of the Local Governing Committee, to Bletchingley Village Primary School & Nursery.
We are proud of our values led, inclusive school and the dedicated staff team who all work together to provide the children with a safe, caring environment in which to learn.
The Local Governing Committee (LGC) has the ultimate responsibility for safeguarding, health and safety, premises, local finance matters and school improvement. We set the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school and support and hold the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school through challenge and support.
The LGC meets a minimum of six times a year and where necessary working parties meet more often. Many governors also take on additional responsibilities for specific areas – SEND, Children Looked After, Disadvantaged pupils, Health and Safety, and Safeguarding for example.
One way in which we carry out our role of supporting and challenging the school responsibly and effectively, is through monitoring visits. At Bletchingley Village Primary School & Nursery, governors are assigned to school development priorities and visit the school regularly to see the evidence of improvement first hand.
As well as meetings and formal visits, we undertake relevant training and attend school events including assemblies, plays, concerts, sports days and accompany the children on educational visits. Governors give generously and willingly of their time for this very important and rewarding voluntary role.
Individual governors each have different skills but we all have the same driving force and focus – to ensure that every child has the best possible education to enable them to progress, fulfil their potential and go on to secondary education as confident, mature, resilient and independent individuals.
Kind Regards,
Geoff Markham
